Left-Handedness Consulting

The society has become more accepting of left-handedness. Yet, old myths and stereotypes still linger, often held by both left- and right-handers alike. And while tolerance is improving worldwide, left-handers still live in a world that is made for right-handers, facing the daily hurdles and challenges that come with it.

To promote the quality of life of left-handers, I am strongly committed to advancing a deeper, evidence-based understanding of left-handedness by offering left-handedness consulting for individuals, organisations, and companies.

Grounded in over two decades of dedicated research on handedness and brain laterality, my consulting activities are designed to inform diverse audiences about the topic while offering actionable guidance on fostering inclusion and removing barriers for left-handers in home, educational, and workplace settings.

To this end, my consulting activities rest on the following three pillars:

Drawing on the latest scientific findings, I offer targeted scientific reports as well as tailored learning experiences, including educational materials, lectures, one-on-one sessions, or workshops designed to foster an evidence-based understanding of left-handedness.

Topics covered may include for example:

  • The definition of left handedness
  • Handedness genetics and evolutionary origins
  • Cultural history and societal perceptions of left-handers
  • Handedness in the animal kingdom
  • Differences in brain organisation in relation to left-handedness
  • Left-handedness in relation to other lateralities and cognitive functions
  • Handedness developmental during childhood
  • Handedness retraining and its consequences

Learning experience are available for individuals and groups, and can take place both online and in-person formats.

Handedness is not always a binary concept limited to left or right preferences. Many people exhibit mixed-handedness, where their preference for using one hand over the other varies depending on the task at hand. A small subset of people, known as ambidextrous individuals, even possess the ability to use both hands with equal proficiency for the same task.

Using psychometrically standardised instruments I conduct comprehensive, state-of-the-art assessments of handedness and related brain laterality (e.g. footedness, language, emotion), available for individuals in both online and in-person formats.

Living in a world predominantly designed for right-handed individuals presents unique challenges for left-handed people in homes, schools, and workplaces.

Based on a systematic analysis and structured interviews concerning the specific conditions, I provide tailored workshops and training sessions, or policy recommendations and actionable items to ensure left-handers are fully supported in their learning and work environments.

I also offer information and advice to parents, who are concerned about the handedness development of their children.
